WWW Wednesday (130) – May 14, 2025

Hello, everyone! It’s Wednesday! That means it is time for another WWW Wednesday, a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking On A World of Words. I’ll be answering the following questions:

  1. What did you read last?
  2. What are you currently reading?
  3. What will you read next?

What did you read last?

I only finished one book this week. I also haven’t written a blog post since last week’s update. I’ve been busy outdoors and trying to focus on getting some projects done around the house. Here is the book I’ve read since my last check-in:

The Phoenix Keeper by S.A. Maclean – 4.5⭐– I adored this book so much. The main character grew so much over the course of the story. She learned to cope with her severe anxiety and achieved her goals in the process. The romance was a minor subplot, but I loved how well it portrayed a rivals to lovers scenario. They felt like actual rivals for quite a bit of the book. Also, THE ANIMALS!!! They were so fantastic. The author did a wonderful job of bringing this zoo to life and creating such unique creatures with distinct personalities.

What are you currently reading?

The Ashfire King by Chelsea Abdullah (67%) – I’m still trudging through this one… At first, I thought it was just my mood making this story difficult to sink into. I’ve been sucked into all of the other books that I’ve picked up this week, though. The first half of the story was just SO SLOW. It was also heavily weighted toward Mazen and Loulie, who just didn’t have much growth in the first half. I still feel like I don’t understand anything about how the jinn world works or the history of the war, which is annoying after so much has happened there. I don’t hate the book. Obviously, I’m still reading it. I just don’t love it as much as I wanted to. 😞

Golden Son by Pierce Brown (33%) – This has been a pretty interesting sequel so far. I’ve enjoyed seeing Darrow navigate the upper echelons of power. He’s struggled quite a bit more than I expected given his performance in the first book. I’m very curious to see where some of his alliances lead. The hype around this series is definitely understandable, but I’m still not quite in love with it yet. We’ll see if that changes before the end of the trilogy.

What will you read next?

I’ll be keeping this week’s picks the same as last week since I didn’t start reading any of them yet. lol.

The Survivor Wants to Die at the End by Adam Silvera, The Lure of Their Graves by Laura R. Samotin, Tears of the Nameless by George Mann

I hope you’ve all had a great week! What have you been reading? Have you read any of these books? Let me know in the comments and feel free to link your WWW Wednesday posts there, as well. I’d love to see them!

  1. I haven’t done much reading this past week, either. Kinda haven’t been in the mood, which is sad. 😕 Glad you like the phoenix book, though…I like the premise of the keeper of magical animals.

  2. I’m glad that you enjoyed the Phoenix Keeper so much . I did love the animals in that. I agree that Ashfire King is very slow. I think it’s a typical middle book where the author is getting all the characters to where they need to be for the final volume. I enjoyed getting to know them better though and the action definitely picks up towards the end.
