I’ve done this tag every year that I’ve been blogging, and I always enjoy it. I’m still not quite sure where it originated, but I’ve seen it all over on a bunch of blogs. If you know where it came from, feel free to tag/link them in the comments. I’ve already finished 90 books this year. So, I’ve got plenty of great options to choose from for this tag. Let’s get started. 🙂
Best Book You’ve Read So Far in 2024

I’m not surprised a Cat Sebastian book took this spot because I’ve loved every book of hers that I’ve read. You Should Be So Lucky was such a beautiful story, and I adored the characters so much. Sebastian always manages to strike a great balance between hopeful and realistic with her historical MM romances, and it just works so well.
Best Sequel You’ve Read So Far In 2024

I loved The Quicksilver Court by Melissa Caruso. There were so many great reveals, and the locked castle fight for survival kept things so tense. The characters endured some stuff, that’s for sure. It led to some interesting and emotional developments, and the end left me screaming for more.
New Releases You Haven’t Read Yet But Want To
I feel like the general answer to this prompt is ALL OF THEM. lol. I managed to pick a few that are at the top of my list, though.

Temptation of the Force by Tessa Gratton, Leather & Lark by Brynne Weaver, The Familiar by Leigh Bardugo, The Bound Worlds by Megan E. O’Keefe, Evocation by S.T. Gibson
Most Anticipated Release for the Second Half of the Year

I adored Andrea Stewart’s The Bone Shard Daughter trilogy and have been anxiously awaiting her next project. It is finally almost here, and I’m so excited to finally get my hands on The Gods Below. I know nothing about it other than that I’m sure I’ll love it.
Biggest Disappointment

Look at this cover!!!! It is so gorgeous and caused my expectations for A Darker Mischief to be sky high. I love dark academia and was excited by the prospect of a queer boarding school story with secret societies. Unfortunately, this did not deliver at all. The writing was just not good, and the plot and romance did not work. It is rare that I recommend people avoid a book, but I was burned bad by this one. So, readers beware.
Biggest Surprise

I’d never heard of this author before and went into Deep Is the Fen with zero expectations. This ended up being one of my favorite books so far this year. It was creepy and tense, and I loved the setting of the swamp. I definitely plan to read more by this author.
Favorite New Author (Debut or New to You)

I know Robert Jackson Bennett isn’t a new author, but he was new to me this year. I had such a great time reading The Tainted Cup. I loved the details of the plant-based architecture, and the murder mystery was fun to follow. I’ve already bought some of Bennett’s other books because of how much I enjoyed this one and can’t wait to dive into them.
Newest Fictional Crush

I really, really liked Will Darling from the KJ Charles Will Darling Adventures series. He was reliable, smart, and down to earth. He also owned a bookshop and just seemed like a regular, cool dude. He’s someone I just think I’d love to spend time with.
Newest Favorite Character

Avra from Running Close to the Wind is my newest favorite character. He was hilarious and a total chaos agent. He was the definition of disaster bisexual, and I wish I had even a tiny bit of his energy and luck. lol.
A Book That Made You Cry

The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue was such an emotional read, and it definitely made me cry. I’m so glad that I finally got around to reading this one. I’m happy that the hype was deserved.
A Book That Made You Happy

I enjoyed the vibes of Swordcrossed. The sexual tension was exquisite, and it was just a fun read, in general. Marske’s writing is always guaranteed to make me happy. So, this one was an easy choice.
The Most Beautiful Book You’ve Bought So Far This Year
I’ve bought so many beautiful special editions this year. I honestly need to stop because I’m sure I’ve spent a small fortune by this point. 😬 The Illumicrate editions of The Winternight Trilogy are some of my favorites, though. They are just absolutely stunning and look great together on my shelf.

Books You Need to Read By the End of the Year
There are so many, but here are a handful that I hope to get to this year…

A Day of Fallen Night by Samantha Shannon, The Ivory Tomb by Melissa Caruso, The House of Always by Jenn Lyons, He Who Drowned the World by Shelley Parker-Chan, Sons of Darkness by Gourav Mohanty
Favorite Book to Movie Adaptation

I know this TV show technically came out last year, but I didn’t watch Fellow Travelers until recently. I’ve enjoyed this show much more than the book, which is a rare occurrence.
Well, those are my picks. It’s been a great year of books so far. I’ve really enjoyed this tag! I tag anyone else who would like to complete it.
I love this tag so thank you for reminding me about it. I’m glad that you enjoyed the Melissa Caruso and hope that you love The Ivory Tomb. I’m looking forward to her new book later this year but it sounds very different. I loved The Tainted Cup too and it will almost certainly feature on my version of this tag
I’m looking forward to Caruso’s new book, as well. It definitely does seem different, but the premise is interesting. I’ll be on the lookout for your answers to the tag. 🙂
Tis the season! I too am looking forward to trying The Familiar.
Me too! I’ve enjoyed Bardugo’s other books, and I’ve had my eye on this one for a while. I was so excited to get it and really need to read it soon.
The answer “all of them” is correct for “New Releases You Haven’t Read Yet But Want To”! There are so many…don’t make me name them all, lol!
It is my stock answer every year for this tag, but it is always correct. lol.
Great answers! The Winternight Trilogy is beautiful! I didn’t get them since I have the Fairyloots and the original covers lol. I gotta slow down on my duplicates.
Thanks! Yeah. I’ve been trying really hard to avoid duplicates because I just do not have the space.
I can’t wait for The Gods Below, and I keep hearing great things about Leather & Lark. Definitely want to get to that soon. I’m so glad we read Addie LaRue. What a fantastic read (even if I did ugly cry a couple of times lol).
I enjoyed Leather & Lark more than Butcher & Blackbird. I thought it was slower and more focused on the characters and relationship. Butcher & Blackbird was just a bit too focused on the different murders for me.
I’m glad we buddy read Addie LaRue, too. I’ve wanted to read it forever, and it was such a beautiful story.
