WWW Wednesday (124) – April 2, 2025

Hello, everyone! It’s Wednesday! That means it is time for another WWW Wednesday, a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking On A World of Words. I’ll be answering the following questions:

  1. What did you read last?
  2. What are you currently reading?
  3. What will you read next?

What did you read last?

It has been over a week since my last reading update. So, this post is going to be a doozy because I’ve been reading a lot. I’ll talk more about it in my forthcoming monthly wrap-up (eventually), but I managed to finish all of the prompts for Trope-ical Readathon. Yay! Here are the books I’ve read since my last check-in:

Scot and Bothered by Alexandra Kiley – 4⭐– This was a solid second-chance romance that I really enjoyed. I liked the setting of the hiking expedition, and I’m always a sucker for book-related themes, as well. It was a quick, fun read with characters I wanted to root for.

Rogue Community College by David R. Slayton – 4.25⭐ – I was happy to be back in the world of Adam Binder. This was an interesting addition with great pacing and an engaging story. I was so happy to see Vran again. I can’t wait to see where this spinoff series goes next. Read all of my thoughts in my review!

Gifted & Talented by Olivie Blake – 4.5⭐ – This book had magnificent character work. The characters were pretty awful people, but they were extremely fascinating. I was completely engrossed in the exploration of their messed up psyches. lol. Check out all of my thoughts in my review!

The Stardust Thief by Chelsea Abdullah – 4⭐– This was my first re-read of the year. I have an ARC of the sequel and needed to refresh my memory before diving into it. I enjoyed this one a lot again. My thoughts on re-read were pretty much the same as in my review from two years ago. I’m excited to see where the story goes next!

Hammajang Luck by Makana Yamamoto – 3.25⭐– Unfortunately, I didn’t love this one as much as I wanted to. It wasn’t a bad book. I just have high expectations for heist stories. So much of it just felt a bit too easy. I did really love the ex-con and trans rep, though. The relationship of the MC and their family was so wholesome, and I adored it. The use of pidgin for a lot of the dialogue was also a struggle for me. I understand why the author included it, and I applaud them for incorporating an aspect of their culture into the story. I just struggled to read it.

Seeds of Starlight by George Mann – 4⭐– I really enjoyed this short audio story. I liked that it provided a close look at the aftermath of the Starlight station’s crash. It probably isn’t essential to the High Republic story, but I still had fun with it.

What are you currently reading?

A Drop of Corruption by Robert Jackson Bennett (33%) – I am eating this book up! I just started it yesterday and am already a third of the way through it. The murder mystery in this one has been so fascinating. I haven’t wanted to put it down.

What will you read next?

I haven’t completely finalized my TBR for this month yet, but here are a few books I hope to get to soon:

The Raven Scholar by Antonia Hodgson, The Ashfire King by Chelsea Abdullah, The Shots You Take by Rachel Reid

I hope you’ve all had a great week! What have you been reading? Have you read any of these books? Let me know in the comments and feel free to link your WWW Wednesday posts there, as well. I’d love to see them!

  1. Ugh. I just wrote out such a long comment and it failed… I’m sure you finished Drop of Corruption at this point. I am hoping to finish tonight or tomorrow. It’s been so good. I also love this cover!! Raven Scholar is one I am hoping to get to at the end of the month. I hope you love it, but I’ve heard good things. Julie and I are starting Ashfire King next Wed/Thurs and are really excited for that one. There are so many good books!

    • Oh no! I hate when that happens. It is the worst. You already know my thoughts on A Drop of Corruption. So, I won’t belabor the point again. lol. I’m enjoying Raven Scholar so far. At times, I wish the pace was a little faster, but I do really love the writing and the story, so far. I still haven’t made it to The Ashfire King, but it is up next after The Raven Scholar. There really are just too many books and too little time.

      • I have heard that about Raven Scholar, but it’s worth it. It’s really long so I kept myself from downloading the widget and waiting on my book box copy. This way, I can read it when I have time (never have time). lol. I agree, there are way too many books and not enough time! We definitely didn’t start today. I am thinking tomorrow or Friday. Priory of the Orange Tree is a slower read than I thought it would be.
