Monthly Wrap-Up: January 2025

monthly wrap-up

Welcome to my monthly wrap-up for January 2025! January was truly a month of beginnings. My wife started her new job, and we both continued exploring our new home. The unpacking kept going slowly but surely, as well. I’ve been experiencing a real winter for the first time, and I like it for the most part. I’m definitely looking forward to spring, though. We’ve learned about some of the quirks of our house the hard way. lol. Yay for frozen pipes/vents, broken furnaces, and dead squirrels in the chimney. However, nothing too terrible or expensive has gone wrong. Hopefully, it stays that way.

The blog had a bit of a renaissance in January, as well. I posted way more than I have in a long time and views (total and per post) were up for the first time in almost a year. It’s amazing what a little consistency can accomplish. Now, let’s take a look at what I managed to read last month!

New Year’s Book Tag (2025)

Hello, everyone! Today I’m doing the New Year’s Book Tag! This tag was originally created by booktuber Heather @Bookables.

How many books are you planning to read in 2025?

I’ve decided to keep my 2025 Goodreads goal the same as the last few years at 100 books. I’ll likely end up reading more than this again, but we’ll see how the year goes.

Name 5 books you didn’t get to this year but want to make a priority in 2025.

There were so many great releases in 2024, and I wasn’t able to get to so many of them. Here are five that I plan to prioritize this year. However, my track record with this question is pretty bad. I didn’t read any of the five books I chose last year for this answer. lol.

The Familiar by Leigh Bardugo, The Last Hour Between Worlds by Melissa Caruso, The Gods Below by Andrea Stewart, The Fury of the Gods by John Gwynne, Yield Under Great Persuasion by Alexandra Rowland

What genre do you want to read more of?

I can’t think of a specific genre I’d like to read more of this year. I was pretty happy with my reading variety last year. It was stuffed with fantasy, as usual, but I also read a decent range of other stuff, too. So, I guess pretty much anything other than fantasy would be the category I’d need to increase.

Name 3 non-book-related goals for 2025

  • Finish settling into my new house. I moved in December. My wife and I are slowly getting everything unpacked. There are still some boxes left in our garage that we need to go through. I also have a lot of stuff that needs to be hung on the walls.
  • Create my LEGO room in the basement. I plan to buy and build shelves in the basement for all of my LEGO sets. I’d love to have that finished by the end of the year, along with fixing/rebuilding the sets that fell apart during the move.
  • Visit a new state. Now that I live in a different part of the country, I’m surrounded by states I’ve never visited. I’d love to take a trip and see some new sights.

What’s a book you’ve had forever that you still need to read?

I’ve wanted to read Doctor Who: At Childhood’s End for years. My physical copy has languished on my shelf for far too long. It has been quite some time since I’ve read a Doctor Who novel. Hopefully, I’ll pick this one up soon.

One word that you’re hoping 2025 will be

I hope 2025 is STABLE. My 2024 was a bit all over the place. I’d like something a bit quieter. The incoming U.S. administration also has me on edge because the people involved seem to thrive on chaos and hate. So, I just hope my life and the world around me stays somewhat stable this year.

I won’t be tagging anyone in this one, but if you would like to participate, feel free to do so. Be sure to link your New Year’s Book Tag post down below if you do because I’d love to read them. 🙂
